The Shoes Took Six Months to Design
it’s more like a concert than a fashion show, With Victoria’s Secret. We started designing six month months ago.The show is shared into themes, and the minute the Victoria’s Secret team get their stories together and they present them, then we design with those themes in mind.We begin the debates six months in and then at least four months of research, development and getting the right methods down so we can give Victoria’s Secret the looks they require.”500 million people are watching this huge stage event with these incredible women.

There Are More Shoe Designs than Ever Before.
100 pairs were made and were about 21 or 22 different styles. This time around we made custom shoes just for them so it was a little more challenging, because in the past Victoria’s Secret would pick from my collection and tweak it, make different colors or make the heel a little higher. This is actually the first time we’ve done styles just for the showbut the end result was great.

Boots Were the Shes De Rigueur
everything was boots.“Boot crazy.Anything is possible because you have a good area to work with.”Youalso have so much area to play around with when they’re boots and over-the-knee boots—whether it’s inlaid suede or fringeor embroidery. Olivier Rousteing did that opening part with his Balmain designs, so that was exciting to design because it’s all kind of punk rock, silver daggers, heavy metal, embroidered into the studs, shoes and palettes.

Everything you can visualize is on those boots fromfeathers to woven embroidery. They are lovely, and are absolutely a statement shoe. It is difficult to even put a price tag on them. Some of the boots would be in the $10,000 collection, and that is a low estimate.”

After the Show, Shoes gostraight to the Victoria’s Secret Archives
we’ve done some commercialization of some of the stylesin the pastKarlie Kloss wore some astonishing woven boots that were actually motivated by a past shoe I made for Lady Gaga. I got so many emails and DMs like ‘where can I purchase these shoes please? With the Victoria Secret shoes. But they just can’t sell shoes—they tried it previouslyand it didn’t work for them but they do like to display some styles in their archives and in their stores and to have them be a part of their collection.”

The Average Heel Height Is Five Inches

Victoria’s Secret is all about sexy, high shoes that extend the legs.“The show shoeis about 5 incheswhich is 120 millimeters. The Angels don’t have a problem walking in that heel height.”
